As an Idaho company, many of us here at Purely Custom are involved in the cycling community and just can’t resist something like a bike festival. Even if you’re not into cycling, If you are in the vicinity, you might want to consider taking in the Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival June 23rd-26th. Here’s some info direct from their blog that has all the details about the events this weekend.
France may have its famous tour. Sturgis, South Dakota, may be best known for its motorcycle rally. And Fort Collins, Colorado, may be beloved for its Fat Tire beer. But when it comes to having fun with two wheels it’s tough to top Idaho’s own annual bike festival, Ride Sun Valley.
For four days at the start of each summer, the entire Sun Valley area becomes a mecca for fun-loving bicycling fans. From towing burning logs in Hailey to burning down the trails on Baldy to costume-clad Local Stoker rides, kids mountain bike races, the Pump Track States Championships and late-night parties all over Ketchum, there are a lot of reasons to love Ride Sun Valley.
Now in its 6th year, Ride Sun Valley will take place from June 23-26th and this year’s local bike fest is set to be the best one ever. But don’t just take my word for it. There’s a little bit of something for everyone who likes life on two wheels. Be sure to catch one, or better yet several, events and you’ll certainly see why so many folks love Ride Sun Valley. To help, here’s a rundown of this year’s highlights. (For a full list of events, check out Visit Sun Valley).

The fun kicks off with what is arguably the festival’s signature event, the SheepTown Drag Races. These races pit racers towing burning logs chained to their bikes. With a DJ and lots of great beer being poured, it’s an exceptionally unique and festive way to kick off the festival.
Powerhouse Pub & Bike Fit Studio on Main Street, Hailey from 5 pm to 10:30 pm.
Friday, June 24, 2016
The festival officially kicks at the RSV (Ride Sun Valley) Expo Area in downtown Ketchum. There are Bike Demos, live music and lots of races, including the daily Local Stoker rides, Men’s and Women’s Clinics, the Kids’ Downtown Criterium and the popular Downtown Criterium/Team Relay—the costumes alone are worth watching.
RSV Expo Area, Downtown Ketchum from 2 pm to 11 pm.
Saturday, June 25, 2016
With more Bike Demos, Live Music, lots of Local Stoker rides and other races there is plenty to do on the longest day of the festival, but there’s only one must do. The Kids MTB Race at River Run is certain to pull a smile on the face of anyone riding or watching. There’s nothing like the pure joy kids riding bikes, which is probably why so many of adults still love to ride—it carries us back to the footloose and fancy free days of our youth.
Kid’s MTB Race at River Run Lodge from 1 pm to 4 pm.
Sunday, June 26, 2016
Ride Sun Valley ends with a big party at the RSV Expo Area and then the last event of the festival, the Idaho Pump Track State Championships, kicks up some dirt. Relatively easy and loads of fun, Pump Tracks are gaining in popularity and the Wood River Valley is home to three great tracks; two in Hailey and one at the Ketchum Bike Park, which will host the championships. This event is popular with kids and grown ups alike.
Ketchum Bike Park from 5 pm to 9 pm.
The 6th Annual Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival arrives June 23-26, 2016!!
This perennial event rolls four days of everything bike under the sun into a wheel spinning blur of good times, awesome races, live entertainment, clinics, guided rides and even a head to head drag race which involves bikes towing flaming logs to crown a champion.
*New Addition – Sun Valley All Mountain Award!*
“Our objective in creating the Sun Valley All Mountain is to honor those well-rounded riders who excel in more than one discipline,” says Festival Director Seth Delorey. “The SVAM will challenge riders to push themselves outside their comfort zone, and will reward riders who have the ability to dominate the downhills and motor up the climbs. The SVAM is for the all-mountain athlete who was made for the trails.”
More details on the award can be found here.
